How to Protect Your Home Exterior during a Roof Replacement

If you’re planning to have your roof replaced, naturally your main focus should be that your roofers do a good job during the actual installation. However, one thing that many homeowners complain about is that the rest of the home exterior including the lawn and garden sometimes get damaged. While most home exterior remodeling companies take special precautions to protect your home during a roof replacement, accidents do sometimes happen. Here are a few steps you should take to prevent it from happening to you.

Document Everything

Before the roofers arrive, take the time to properly document everything with your camera. Walk around your home and take as many pictures as you can. Be sure to take photos of the areas that you would like to keep safe the most, such as prized garden plants or outdoor furniture.

Once the roof replacement company arrives, talk to the supervisor and take another walk around the property. Remember, communication is key so give special instructions with regards to any area of your home exterior that you want them to be careful with during the course of the installation.

Cover Up

A roof installation can be quite messy. If there are plants, shrubs, or furniture that are too close to the side of your house, you can use a piece of cloth or a tarp to protect them from falling debris. It is also a good idea to provide a bin near the work area so that the workers have a convenient place to throw away trash.
