What a Poorly Installed Roof System Looks Like

While most roofing contractors are skilled and dependable, there are still a few ‘bad apples’ who have no qualms about pulling a fast one on unsuspecting homeowners. If you’re unlucky enough to have worked with one, you should probably expect that your roof system has been installed incorrectly. You’ll know that was the case because the signs will be fairly noticeable. One of the area’s most trusted home exterior remodeling companies, Triangle Home Exteriors shares what a poorly installed roof looks like:

  • The roof looks uneven. From a visual standpoint, a properly installed shingle roof should look flat and consistent from every angle. But if the surface appears lumpy and uneven, poor installation is most likely the cause. Keep in mind that asphalt shingles do appear bumpy following the installation because the adhesive strips haven’t softened yet. But once the roof gets hot enough, the strips will begin to soften and bond with the roof, creating a permanent seal and allowing for a flat and seamless surface. But if the roof remains lumpy weeks or months after the installation, the quality of the job is put into question.
  • The roof shingles are prone to blowing off. A properly installed roof should stay intact during a windstorm, especially if the system is relatively new. But if the contractor doesn’t use the correct number of nails, or if the shingles themselves aren’t nailed properly, they become more susceptible to blow-offs. You won’t have to worry about this if you choose Triangle Home Exteriors for your roof replacement and installation. As a CertainTeed® SELECT ShingleMaster® roofer, we always make sure the job adheres to stringent quality specifications.
