How to Get HOA Approval for Your Siding Replacement

HOA communities typically require their members to secure an HOA approval for home improvements, such as siding replacement. Don’t worry because as long as you follow the guidelines, the approval process for your siding replacement should go smoothly.

In this post, Triangle Home Exteriors shares tips on how to obtain an HOA approval for your siding project.

Review Your HOA’s CC&Rs

Siding replacement is a simple and cost-effective way to improve the appearance of your home. However, you can’t choose any siding color or style without consulting your HOA board. You can also check your CC&Rs for your HOA’s requirements for siding replacement.

Get HOA Approval for Your Project

The CC&Rs should also discuss the approval process and specify the documents and forms you must submit for your siding replacement. If the information is not in the document, ask a board member for instructions. Avoid starting your project without the board’s approval. Typically, you need to submit a detailed project proposal form and additional documents, such as a building permit. Make sure to submit the requirements on time as HOA approval can sometimes take weeks.

Talk to Your Contractor About the Work Hours

Once your siding replacement is approved, the next step is to talk to your contractor about work hours. Generally, it’s good to schedule the work anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. so that most of your neighbors are out at work or in school. By ensuring your contractor will follow the agreed schedule, your project will cause less disruption and inconvenience to your neighbors. Moreover, you should inform your neighbors about the project beforehand and clean up the job site after every work day.
