3 Questions to Ask Your Window Contractor Before Hiring Them

Window replacement is one of the home improvement projects that’s best left in the hands of the professionals. However, there are things that you have to consider when choosing a contractor for the job. Many contractors advertise themselves to provide great service, but how can you separate the best from the rest? Triangle Home Exteriors shares three questions you can ask a contractor before signing the contract.

Q1: How long will the project take?

Most of the time, a window replacement can only take a day or two. However, if your contractor finds a problem with your window opening, frames, or seals, they may have to take more time to fix them first before installing your new windows. This is only to make sure that your new windows will not experience problems early in their lifespan.

Q2: What are your warranties?

Manufacturers usually provide 10 to 20 years of warranties for their products. However, make sure that the contractor is authorized by that manufacturer. Otherwise, you may find yourself losing the warranty. You can also check for a warranty from your contractors. This is to make sure that, if problems stemming from improper installation start to occur, you will not have to pay for the cost of the repair. As a homeowner, it is also your responsibility to check the scope of your warranty, including its inclusions and exclusions.

Q3: Will I get an itemized estimate?

Before the project starts, you must already have a copy of the itemized estimate. This estimate should include all materials to be used, labor and other expenses such as waste disposal. This can be used later on if ever you and the contractor have disputes down the road.

Home improvement projects don’t have to be tiring and stressful. As long as you work with a reputable contractor, the path towards a successful and satisfactory window replacement becomes smooth-sailing and hassle-free.
